    London presents a unique picture of diversity in the UK, with extreme affluence existing side-by-side with extreme disadvantage. According to the 2003 Mid Year Estimates, out of the 7,387,900 people living in London, at least 3 million belong to BAME groups. The latest census in 2001 showed that the unemployment rate for inner London is 8.9% and for Greater London 6.7%. 6.2% and 5.0% respectively are White British and 15.1% and 11.3% are BAME people.
