A. There is no legal difference between date rape and rape. Date rape describes a rape that is perpetrated by a person who is known to the victim, such as a friend, an acquaintance, or a potential love interest. Legally, the perpetrator of rape is only significant if the person is a family member, a teacher, or another authority figure. Otherwise, knowing your rapist will not change the legal definition of rape.
