The idea of victim precipitation is controversial because it puts the blame of criminal molding on the victim. The problem with this idea is that it puts the onus on the victim to avoid crime. In an indirect manner it says that the victim gets what he deserves. For example a victim of theft is blamed for not taking adequate security measures. Similarly, for a rape case it blames the girl for wearing an attractive skirt.
