Jurisprudence in the American judicial system of law is predicated upon The Principle of Stare Decisis wherein the origin of law as we know it today has evolved over centuries from the requirement that courts must follow decisions of higher level courts within the same jurisdiction. This legacy of precedent has enabled the development of reasonably predictable and consistent sets of laws to emerge based upon the Hierarchical Court system of the Supreme Court, which is the highest court in the land followed by the Federal Circuit court system that is based upon Federal District Courts at the bottom and followed by Federal Court of Appeals.
