To answer this question you would first need to set up your argument or thesis. In your introduction you could explain that the Founding Fathers viewed the office of President as a chief executive officer who would serve as head of state, chief diplomat, and commander of the armed forces. It is ironic that at its inception the presidency was not that powerful of an office. However with each crisis the U.S. always seemed to have the right leader serving as President. (i.e. during the birth of the nation, the Civil War, and foreign crises.) As a result the office began to change and at times assume more power. For a thesis you could argue that in some ways the presidency has changed but in other ways it has not changed very much. In fact you could say that the politics of Theodore Roosevelt pushed America into the 20th century, and much of his legacy remained a huge part of the presidency into the 21st century
