    In order to answer this question effectively, you must first find a working definition for the term culture.

    Culture - (from dictionary.com) The totality of socially transmitted behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought.

    To help you answer the question, I put together a few thoughts with examples of how history can influence culture. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list, but rather to give you ideas on how to approach the question.

    I. Politics -

    A very obvious way history impacts culture is through politics. Historical events directly influence the politics of all countries. For instance, a country that defines itself through great historical events will have a unique political system that in turn impacts the national culture. A great example of this would be the Soviet Union whose great historical experience was the October (communist) Revolution of 1918 (as well as a harrowing WWII experience). Soviet culture consequently developed in a way that would have been radically different had the October Revolution not instituted a totalitarian communist government.
