There have been hundreds of new avenues of communication opened to the public over the course of past 10 years. Some of these are extensions of existing forms of communication while others are essentially new technologies or forms of communication.
Facebook (been around since 2004)
Okay, so Facebook is really a social media site and it could be argued that it is mostly an ego-massaging device. Individuals artificially create the best image of themselves as possible while failing to post pictures of themselves in less than flattering poses. However, many people use Facebook to post ideas, meaningful discussions and links to videos that encompass everything from epic fails to speeches of political leaders. Additionally, Facebook can be used to message people individually rather than post to a user's wall.
