What are the advantages and disadvantages of norm- and criterion-related assessments and formative and summative evaluations?
Norm-related assessments: Students are identified as average, above average, or below average. Achievement in the classroom will differ because of differences in students such as the background knowledge they already have on a concept, learning skills they possess, and self-motivation. Generally, the achievement results will create a normal distribution of scores with most in the middle (average) and few with very low or very high scores.
