Norms, values and assets relate to how people feel and view their own and others culture. Any standard dictionary provides detailed definitions, which are summarized below. Generally, individuals recognize patterns of behaviour in other cultures, but often will struggle to recognize the cultural norms, values and assets within their own culture.

Norms are defined as: attitudes and patterns of behaviour that are considered 'normal' in a given group. Norms influence what a group of people value, their belief systems and the attitudes they have, however, often an individual is unaware of how their own patterns of behaviour are viewed by others.

Values are defined as: the beliefs, attitudes, behaviours and characteristics of an individual that are usually influenced and defined by the society that individual lives in. However, values can change over time, particularly if an individual moves from one cultural group, community or country into another. Values are instilled through parental beliefs, societal beliefs, educational institutions (what is deemed important enough to be taught).
Individuals often feel significant pressure to conform to the surrounding societal/community norms & values.
