Course Project II: Literature Review on Statistical Measures

This week, you will submit Part II of the course project. This assignment is designed to show an understanding of how each type of statistical analysis varies and when you may or may not use each type of analysis. One of the skills of a researcher is knowing the appropriate type of analysis to use in a given situation. You will, therefore, review the literature to examine studies that used a variety of analyses that you have learned about and critically analyze them for their appropriateness in terms of the research that was performed and the data that was collected. You have submitted Part I of the course project in Week 5.

In Part II of the course project, you will perform a more extensive literature review to critically analyze the use of statistical methods in research. You will focus on the choice of common statistical tests to determine whether the most appropriate test is used in the given situation. In many situations, the most appropriate test is not used, which can influence the interpretation of results and the hypothesis. In some situations, it may be due to the researcher's lack of understanding of the statistics subject. In other situations, it may be due to the fact that the researcher is attempting to optimize his or her data by using an analysis that will lead to a higher likelihood of rejection of the null hypothesis.

For this assignment, find three different studies using the Proquest database in the online library that used each of the following analyses:
•Independent or paired t-test
•One-way ANOVA
•Chi-square analysis

For each study (and, therefore, for each analysis), address the following aspects:
•State the hypothesis of the study as it pertains to the statistical analysis in question.
•Summarize the variables that were analyzed in the study and what was being measured.
•Explain the author's rationale for using that specific analysis.
•Analyze and justify whether the author's choice is the appropriate analysis to use.
•Describe another analysis that could be used in this study. You may need to explain how the variables need to change for a different type of analysis to be used. For instance, if the researcher used an ANOVA to compare actual test scores and you think that a chi-square analysis is more appropriate in this study, you would need to explain how the variables would need to change to a categorical one.
•Compare the advantages and disadvantages of using the analysis of the author with the one that according to you could be more appropriate.
