5 common denominators contributing to any fire accident or incident are that most incidents occur on smaller fires or on isolated portions of larger fires, many innocent fires in appearance unexpectedly shift in wind direction and/or speed resulting in flare-ups or extreme fire behavior, light fuels such as grass and light brush are deceptively responsible for many flare-ups, chimneys, saddles, gullies, and steep slopes contribute to fires because fires have the capacity to run uphill at alarming rates, and that tools that are supposed to suppress fires such as helicopters or air-tankers, can have adverse impacts on fire behavior actually contributing to the flare-ups.

These include answering whether YOUR property can be defended, are the defenders emotionally and physically capable of standing and defending the property, is the proper equipment necessary to fight available and readily accessible, does property have enough water supply to adequately fight the fire, and can arrangements be made to ensure the safety of elderly individuals and children who may be in harms' way. If a person cannot definitively answer yes to all these questions, it is not recommendable for them to stand and fight. I concur with that statement.
