Environmental health entails the assessment and control of environmental factors that can potentially affect our health. Environmental health is a sub-discipline of public health, and as such is targeted towards preventing disease and creating health-supportive environments (World Health Organization, 2012) (WHO). Air pollution, asbestos, and exposures to chemicals and carcinogenic (cancer-causing) agents, climate change, water and sanitation are all aspects of particular importance and relatedness to environmental health. This area of public health is in essence concerned with, examines, and addresses all the physical, chemical, and biological factors external to individuals, as well as all the other related factors that impact human behaviors. Such behaviors include but are not limited to: environmental; behavioral; psych-socio-cultural, as well as genetics. (WHO, 2012). Environmental health is a concern to individual and global health as it threatens our very existence.

How much power is too much?
I have been asked to discuss the pros and cons of public health officers/ environmental health officer having powers to force people to take action to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. I am to develop a conclusion about the appropriateness of the act and regulation in today's society.
This is due to a civil liberties group expressing concern over the public health act, and communicable disease control regulations. There issue is that the provisions of the legislation are too draconian in the powers granted to public health officials.View Full Posting Details
