Indoor air pollution and indoor air in many cases is more harmful and full of contaminants then outdoor air. Air that is re-circulated inside of concealed spaces can pick up harmful airborne germs, chemical residues from building materials or other harmful sources such as paint, mold, dust, etc. The root cause of indoor air pollution typically stems from poor construction that leads to the home or office buildings being improperly sealed which allows in dust and other micro particulates into the air. Also, improper ventilation of the air is a common cause of pollution. Also, any indoor space where cigarette smoking is occurring will generally have 30-50% more air pollution than a non smoking environment (Weinhold, 2011).
