Climate change involves the interplay of ocean temperature, currents, chemistry, and salinity. Changes in both surface and deep ocean currents occur. When plankton and archaea (group of single-celled microorganisms) are affected, a relay of changes will occur (Houghton et al, 2001). Glacier Ice everywhere is melting, a huge amount of the melt occurs in Greenland. The resulting cold water runoff might disrupt ocean currents and prevent warm air from reaching northern and western Europe. Because the size of the glaciers has diminished, less heat is reflected back by white ice and more is absorbed by darker water, further reducing the ice, a positive feedback loop.

The U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was organized in response to a strong consensus that the 21st century will experience a significant climate change and that human activities will be at least partly responsible for the change. The IPCC report projected a 1.4o to 5.8oC (2.5o to 10.4oF) increase in global temperature by the year 2100, although the warming will not be uniform region to region.
