Bluetooth is an open wireless protocol for exchanging data over short distances from fixed and mobile devices. Bluetooth helps to bring with of freedom from the cables that have yet to be matched by Local Area Network.
Bluetooth is a standard and communications protocol primarily designed for low power consumption, with a short range (power-class-dependent: 1 meter, 10 meters, 100 meters) based on low-cost transceiver microchips in each device.
Bluetooth isn't a line of sight and it provides ranges of up to 100 meters. Bluetooth is also low power and low processing with an overhead protocol. What this means, is that it's ideal for integration into small battery powered devices. To put it short, the applications with Bluetooth are virtually endless.
The major disadvantage is the data rate and security. Infrared can have data rates of up to 4 MBps, which provides very fast rates for data transfer, while Bluetooth only offers 1 MBps.

I am writing a paper for a Research skills class on the benefits and challenges of telecommuting. I have made a thesis statement that says that because of the many benefits to the employer and employee telecommuting has become a popular option in today's workforce, it is not without its challenges and not a good option for all. Further saying that those considering it must be aware of the pros and cons and how they fit with both their lifestyle and work style.
