A home computer is ideal for connecting to the modem and router; however, a laptop is portable. The hardware recommendations:
*1 GHz 32 bit or 64 bit processor (larger processors are best)
*2 GB of system memory
*Minimum of 80GB hard drive
*DVD-Rom drive (prefer CD/DVD-Rom burner)
The software recommendations are to use Windows XP Professional, Vista, or Window 7 (you can go to Microsoft.com to determine if your computer (not pre-sold with Windows 7) is compatible.
Also, I would recommend Microsoft Office 2007 (this office product is backwards compatible with older office/WordPerfect/Open Office applications.
