    According to Moore's Law the number of transistors roughly doubles every couple of years. As transistor density increases, it innovates the architecture designs and allows delivery of more complex, powerful, and energy-efficient chips which in turn go into our smart devices. These chips with increased density of transistors are transforming the way we work, live, and play. The transistors gets smaller each time which in turn allows the count of transistors on a chip to go up. With increased number of smaller transistors the smaller chip size helps incorporate more computing capacities in smaller devices such as smartphones and tablets.

    Based on the comparison between the first chip in 1971 and the latest of 2012, the actual size of the chip has considerably reduced and the number of transistors has arisen from 2300 to 1.4 billion. Also note the clock speed performance from 108 KHz to 2.9 GHz. With respect to computer miniaturization a smartphone like Apple iPhone is a perfect example of a mini-computer with the ability to perform several complex functions. It allows a barrage of capabilities such as playing music, videos, downloading in a jiffy, processing payments in apps, games, and many more features which are out of scope in this essay.
