    CoSO4-7H2O + 7SOCl = CoSO4 + 7SO2 + 14 HCl
After heat was added to the reactant in a covered container, the solid will turn blue. The mixture is removed, lid taken off, and the blue solid is stirred. The cover is replaced, the mixture is cooled, but there is no color change. Why?

Is it becasue there is a cover on the mixture?

There is a color change because the cobalt (II) sufalte heptahydrate is changing to cobalt (II) sulfate.

When you cool the mixture off, you may expect the products to turn back into reactants because of LeChatelier's Principle, but this is not the case. When the lid is removed, the SO2 (which is a gas) will escape. Without the SO2, there can be no backward reaction.
