HP has succeeded in acquiring Electronic Data Systems (EDS) at the value of 13.9 billion. The first thing that Mark Hurd should do is to preserve and enhance the profitability of Electronic Data Systems (EDS). The main revenue earners of Electronic Data Systems (EDS) are infrastructure, business process outsourcing and applications software. The marketing synergies that have been suggested include suggestions that the customers of Electronic Data Systems (EDS) will be encouraged to purchase HP products. It is suggested that the main sources of Electronic Data Systems (EDS) revenues should be maintained before attempting to increase synergies.
There do not seem to be significant overlaps between the two companies so Mark Hurd may continue to treat Electronic Data Systems (EDS) as a separate entity and not attempt another cultural integration. Mark Hurd has promised HP shareholders that the acquisition of Electronic Data Systems (EDS) will lead to significant increase in shareholder value. He must fulfill this promise.
