1. Which figure is the closest representation of your organization's current model? Why?

Figure one is far off from my organization. The firm where I work makes plastic molded toys. It has not moved beyond the borders of my country and so it is not a global organization. Both figures 3-1 and 3-2 are irrelevant because the separation of the production function from materials management and the separation of order fulfillment from materials management are impossible. Such separation will drive up confusion. Similarly, figure 3-3 separates order management, purchasing, and operations. This will cut off communications and force delays. Figure 3-5 separates purchasing, supply chain manager, and manufacturing. This can lead to fights and late deliveries. Figure 3-6 is unacceptable. The supply chain manager bosses over manufacturing, order fulfillment, order management, and supplier management. This shoves the manufacturing process to a position of less importance.

Currently, the figure that is closest to what I see in my organization is figure 3-4. The operations manager is responsible for logistics and purchasing. There is no separate supply management. The operations manager is responsible for manufacturing and order fulfillment.
