Though there are many similarities in the way business is conducted in the U.S. and in the UK,
there are many subtle differences. In both the U.S. and in England, formal business attire is expected
to be worn. This means wearing a suit and dress shirt for men and suit for women. However, in the U.S.
ties can be slightly more personalized or colorful. In England ties are expected to be solid color or
subdued patterns. Stripes are not desirable. Women should wear conservative suits to the office with
either appropriate flat shoes or heels. In the U.S. it is more commonly accepted that women will wear
pumps with business attire.
Customs are another area of slight differences. Though punctuality is important in both
countries, it may be acceptable to be fashionably late in the U.S., as ...
