For example, iron ore and coal are transported to steel making plants, and finished steel is transported to the factories that require steel for manufacturing. Similarly, the finished products made from steel are transported to the final consumers. Transportation is important for business because it allows specialization and division of labor on geographical basis. For example, one region in the United States specializes in the manufacturing of cars. Transportation is required to ship the raw materials to the factories, and transportation is required to ship finished vehicles to their showrooms. One of the key roles of transportation is to carry labor and workers from one region to the area where their services are required.
