This case demonstrated the necessity for companies to ensure that new program managers are provided the necessary support and guidance required to ensure that they can succeed and excel at their position. The case highlighted how a new and inexperienced project manager was thrust into her position out of necessity before the company would have preferred, yet because the manager was provided the necessary mentoring and coaching that she needed, she was able to acquire the program management skills for success. In addition, the company provided the novice project manager with additional standardized tools and processes that have been proven in other disciplines to enhance the ability to engage in continuous and thorough improvement. Therefore, the manager was able to master this project management task without the organization being required to restructure their entire project to accommodate the new project manager's inexperience.
