The use of project management software to organized projects has drastically increased over the past few years both in functionality and complexity. Software such as MS Project and Oracle Primavera has the capability organizing projects in full and complete detail. This project software though has some advantages and disadvantages as with regard to their use. This paper analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of using project management software in organizing projects and in specific project scope (Schwalbe, 2010; Harris, 2007).
A project scope is the detailed identification of the tasks required to be completed in order to be able to deliver or complete a given project. It specifically refers to clear details of the set of deliverables, features and exclusions encompassing a project. There are specific components of a project scope. These are: project objectives, deliverables, milestones, technical requirements, limits and exclusions and customer reviews. Project management software can effectively help in the organization of these components of a project scope in order to ensure faster and more effective and efficient delivery of the project (Schwalbe, 2010).
