Such internal and external environmental scanning is done by using a wide range of tools, such as SWOT analysis, Porter's industry analysis of five forces, etc. Once the environmental scanning is done, an organization starts identifying its longer term objectives, mission and vision and formulate strategies as per the overall goals.
