Fortunately, the advances in technology, in almost every major industry, have led to tools and services that assist companies in creating strategies that can aid in the development of their uniqueness, their competitive advantage. As is examined herein, Baderman Island is in the position to introduce new technology that will focus on the premise of Porters' Five Forces Model, as well as providing the resort with a competitive advantage.

Competitive advantage is that crucial element that can make or break a company's or organization's existence. If they have nothing to offer the general public, nothing that differentiates them from the competition, the decision for the consumer is easy. Buy from whom I am comfortable with, it is that simple. As computers have made life easier at home and at work, they have also provided countless companies the ability to serve customers quickly and more efficiently, while allowing individual departments such as accounting and shipping and receiving to streamline their processes.

None of this would have been possible without advances in technology. Bar codes, and related scanning equipment, make it possible for cashiers to get customers in and out of the store quickly- without the need to enter manually the price/cost of each individual item.
