The independent variable is the variable that is believed, predicted or the reason for fluctuation in the dependent variable. In an experiment, the independent variable is the factor that is supposed to make 'it' happen. The independent variable is also called the causative factor. In the given piece, the causative factor is the information technology and the dependent variable is the traditional laboratory, nature of experimentation and the handling of materials in the context of experimentation.
