One example of a compensation practice is pay for performance. In this strategy, apart from the base salary, a proportion of the compensation is linked to performance of the employees, such as achievement of sales targets among sales personnel. Such compensation strategy not only motivates the employees to perform in a better manner by linking their compensation with their performance, but also removes unnecessary burden on the company because the company will pay the higher salary only if the personnel achieves better revenues for the firm.
