Groups can be formal or informal. If they are formal, these are defined by organization's structure. If they are informal, these are not formally structured or determined by the company.
Types of Groups
There are many types of groups that can occur in a company. These include:
Command group-These are determined by the organization chart. This is usually who reports to whom in the chain of command.
Tasks groups-These are organizationally determined; usually these consist of individuals that work together to complete a job task. It is important to note that these individuals do not have to report to the same person. They can be from different departments or teams.
Interest group-These group members work together for a specific "interest" that they are all vested in.
