The project for MGT 245 is a research paper on the successful and/or unsuccessful application of organizational behavior concepts in any organization. Select and research three to five organizational behavior main concepts that, uniquely practiced, make your chosen organization either successful, unsuccessful, or a combination of both. The organization you select should provide you with ample opportunities for research, since you will be required to use five to seven references as part of your research. The final paper should be formatted according to APA guidelines, and contain the following elements:

? An introduction and a thesis statement
? A body with supporting evidence and in-text citations
? A conclusion
? A reference list with at least five to seven sources

Choose three organizational behavior main concepts. Your research should uncover how your selected organization successfully uses, or suffers by ignoring, any three of these concepts:

? Decision Making
? Motivation
? Group Behavior
? Communication
? Power and Politics
? Organizational Structure
? Organizational Culture
? Human Resources Practices
? Change Management

Be sure to provide multiple examples of the main concepts as practiced at the organization.

Many organizations use organizational behavior concepts, but not all organizations publicize their methods for success or missteps to embarrassing failures. Select an organization for which a good amount of research has been conducted and has been made publicly available.

One approach to help you with an assignment like this one is to provide you with information from various sources, which you can draw on for your final copy. This is the approach this response takes. This is also in keeping BrainMass policy not to complete assignments or parts of assignments for students. I also attached two supporting articles, some of which this response is drawn. I also attached a helpful APA resource.

RESPONSE:

1. Be sure to provide multiple examples of the main concepts as practiced at the organization. Many organizations use organizational behavior concepts, but not all organizations publicize their methods for success or missteps to embarrassing failures. Select an organization for which a good amount of research has been conducted and has been made publicly available (Microsoft).

Organizational Behavior (OB) is the study and application of knowledge about how people, individuals, and groups act in organizations (Organizational Behavior). OB has various concepts, such as organizational culture, motivation and communication. All businesses, including Microsoft Inc. are impacted either positively or negatively through their organizational behavior. Microsoft develops, manufactures, licenses, and supports software products and services for various types of computing devices. Co.'s products and services include operating systems for servers, personal computers, and intelligent devices; server applications for distributed computing environments; information worker productivity applications; computing applications; software development tools; and video games. Co. also provides consulting and product support services, and trains and certifies computer system integrators and developers. Co. operates via five segments: Client, Server and Tools, Online Services Business, Microsoft Business Division, and Entertainment and Devices Division (Microsoft Corporation, 2008).

Microsoft is committed to its customers: "We are committed long term to the mission of helping our customers realize their full potential. Just as we constantly update and improve our products, we want to continually evolve our company to be in the best position to accelerate new technologies as they emerge and to better serve our customers" (Our Commitment to Our Customers).

Your thesis might be something to the effect:

Microsoft's success is largely due to its organizational culture, motivation strategies, and communication that promotes a "community spirit" to its employees, customers and community.

Culture

Culture is the conventional behavior of a society that encompasses beliefs, customs, knowledge, and practices. It influences human behavior, even though it seldom enters into their conscious thought. People depend on culture as it gives them stability, security, understanding, and the ability to respond to a given situation (Organizational Behavior).

Microsoft has an innovative corporate culture and a strong product development focus that is designed to keep the company on the leading edge of the industry. "We believe that our employees are the company's most important asset. They are the source of our creative ingenuity and success so we empower each staff member to take initiative in solving problems, coming up with new ideas and improving the organization" (Culture). Microsoft's culture values diversity and respects each person's individuality. Microsoft reports that when "you sell software to 180 million people, in 70 countries, speaking 150 languages, you can't afford to have a singular point of view. Microsoft employs people from many nationalities and backgrounds" (Culture).

Microsoft's chairman, Bill Gates says it this way: "The collaborative energy that is created when talented people from different backgrounds come together to focus on innovation has helped fuel Microsoft's success for more than 30 years. As we bring our innovations into more and more markets around the world, and as we strive to bridge the digital divide so that people at all levels of society can benefit from ...
