One of the problems related to the use of technology is the precise requirements that some of the software has. There is no built in margin for error, so even something as simple as a misspelling can cause a patient's file or medication order to be rejected. Another problem is the time commitment that needs to be put into training for the staff at a medical facility. If the staff is resistant to the new technology and refuse to learn or to cooperate with the guidelines of the software, then there is a risk that errors will occur in the system due to lack of consistency.
Both of these problems are significant as they result in an investment of time for training, or in wasted time trying to correct errors in the system. Many healthcare organizations argue that it is not worth the training, time or expense to change to the new system and to utilize technology over a prescription pad.
