Cultural awareness is a powerful attribute for managers to possess. Conducting business in other countries may be challenging if management is unaware of acceptable and unacceptable business practices. The United States embodies a plethora of regulations for business transactions; the same is true in various countries. One of the most important adjustments U.S. based organizations must encounter revolves around their ability to communicate effectively on an international platform. It is imperative for management to familiarize themselves with the countries language to alleviate potential language barrier. Another important aspect of international business is to learn cultural etiquette. In Linda Beamer and Iris Varmer's (2001) book Intercultural Communication in the Global Workplace, they discuss an instance where Robert Breckenridge from the United States arranged a meeting with Klaus Hartman from Germany. The meeting was about potential expansion in Germany which would allow the company to generate significant revenue. This was Breckenridge's first meeting with German's so he wanted to make a good first impression. He wanted to demonstrate an enthusiastic, outgoing personality.
