There are major differences between a manufacturing and service organization due to the fact that manufacturing organization manufactures and sells a physical, tangible product whereas service organizations are involved with producing and delivering an intangible service that can only be experienced.

As we know, that a service is produced and consumed at the same time and has no shelf life, no inventory or buffer stock as well as its attributes cannot be seen, unlike a product that can be stored, can be felt or touched by the consumer and attributes can be highlighted, service organizations operate in a different manner as compared to manufacturing firms.

Let us start about structure. Traditionally, manufacturing firms operate on a more rigid, hierarchical organizational structure with clearly defined functions, roles and responsibilities. On the other hand, service firms operate on a more leaner, flat organizational structure with flexibility in terms of structure, responsibilities and functions.
