In his post in an article "control vs. influence", Michael Hyatt said something that caught my attention very much. Leadership is not all about the power and ability to control but about a leader's ability to influence their way out to get things done and achieve their goals. (Hyatt,2007)

It is basically not possible to no matter who you are, to control everybody especially in our modern world where freedom abounds and people everywhere have right including even the children we have given birth to.

In organizations therefore, effective leaders who possesses the skills and workable strategies would have the ability to influence their way through to achieve their goals. I am not personally very much in support of people (Christians) who believe strongly that, Christians who lead righteous lives are the only ones whom God blesses and make them prosper materially and live in good physical health but I am fascinated by the work of Oral Roberts for instance in pushing this doctoring and making so much impact even until now where many Christian Pastors and workers still believe and preaches it.

The leaders I have learnt their lesson not to force and control at all cost as other people would do and fail but rather sought for ways to influence very well which has enabled them achieve success and given them a mark in their leadership style.

They have exercised self- focus and tried to be models themselves, worthy of emulation and people who are trustworthy before their followers. They have practiced what they say which has fetch respect among the people they lead.

They have been people who take initiative and actions and then influence their followers to go after them in the direction they want them to go. "There are a lot of entrepreneurs. There are a lot of people who are very smart, very hardworking, very few ever have the planetary alignment that leads to a tiny little company growing into something substantial. So that requires not only a lot of planning, a lot of hard work, a big team of people who are all dedicated, but it also requires that not only the planets align, but that you get a few galaxies in there aligning, too", (Bezos, 2013).

Coming out with a clear unambiguous vision, they have given a thorough understanding to their followers on what they intend to achieve and how to go about it, which has made it easier for them to influence their followers in the directions they had wanted to go.

They have learnt to show appreciation when they had to do which is a nice tactic since every employee and follower would like to be recognized for their efforts in helping achieve the goals of the organization. Gary C. Kelly in this case has been noticed to be very good at this where tries to promote and reward hard work whilst involving his employees in accomplishing task. (Scot,2012).

Hi Youssef , your post spoke volumes to me as I believe every word of it. We all have to learn how to do things; from a baby learning to walk and talk, to the leader learning how to lead effectively. A baby will follow the parent's lead and so will an employee follow the manager's lead. Also, employees have a need to be recognized for a job well done. It is part of our basic human drive for attention. I also agree that a leader has to be all of what he is trying to accomplish within the organization. Excellent post and I wish you luck on the final paper and the rest of your program.

Regards,
George
