LEADERSHIP STYLE
The word leadership is different from management and carries multiple meanings. Leadership is about doing right things. Leadership is also referred to as art of getting work done from others who want to do it. Leadership is also about giving right direction to people to guide them to the right destination. Hence, we can say that leadership is about managing delivery of a vision. A good leader should possess some key qualities like honesty, delegation, communication, confidence, commitment, positive attitude, creativity, ability to inspire, and intuition. Personally I believe that trustworthiness is the most important skill for a leader. A leader has to be committed to goals of team. When there is open communication there is free flow of ideas which increases creativity and productivity (Halvorson, n.d). It will happen only when leader is trustworthy. If not, employees will not get comfortable with the leader and will not give in their best efforts. It will indicate ineffective leader who is not able to inspire, influence and create change. Hence, leader has to develop interpersonal trust with followers. A trustworthy leader is communicative, cooperative and shares information. Trust is built and maintained by leader's day to day deeds which include his traits, behavior, leadership style and skills. In addition organization culture plays an important role in promoting trust or distrust in the organization.
