The style approach works because it provides an approach, a way of implementing plans and motivating employees. The style approach works because it has been used to identify styles, list their characteristics, and describe situations in which each style is appropriate. By studying the situation the leader can make out which leadership skill will work in that situation. Now the style approach identifies three styles of leadership namely authoritarian, participative, and delegative. The style approach clarifies that good leaders use all three styles. They uses these styles appropriately. Bad leaders stick to one style in all situations.
Leaders need to be more task-oriented when they have all the information to solve the problem, there is shortage of time, and employees are motivated. For example, when your company has set up a plant, production needs to be started immediately, you know the steps of commencing production, and most of the employees are new recruits, the leader should be task oriented.
