DWP is a government construction program started in the UK. It was formed in the year 2002 (Cips,n.d.). The aim was to redesign more than 2000 job and social security offices in the UK. A high rate of activity was the target and this required an efficient supply chain system. There was a need to use a team approach and build close relationships so as to work in an integrated manner. The project wished to combine good quality with low price so as to provide better value. The idea was to provide value not only on one project, but on an ongoing basis. By combining expenditures it was found that purchasing power could be leveraged. There was also a need to increase predictability of cost, time and profits.
The Integrated Supply chain solution was planned as illustrated below:
