The external factors included the expansion of the internet, the growth of the tech bubble, and the new technological world. Other organizations were inspired by the Internet expansion and experimented with innovation. The effect was that customer expectations were created. An important external factor was that huge IT investments were being made to replace legacy company systems which were at the risk of being harmed by the millennium bug.
