The Forbes article, "Outsourcing Can Do Much More Than Just Cut Costs" by Michael Heric and Bhanu Singh as its title implies, is more than about outsourcing now just being used for its original purpose, to cut a corporation's costs. It's now needed now for the corporations to not only cut costs, but also to thrive and just survive in a profit making mode. This can occur, as long as it is done with diligence and with an open and careful analytical eye directed towards the big picture and all of the pictures ever changing uncertainty and chaos. The article starts by stating that only hat 1 in ten companies achieve sustained growth in profits.
The article starts off by reviewing how companies started to more commonly outsource as a way of saving money from its expenses in labor around the start of this century. The article also states that..."but companies that create real sustained value routinely use them for far more strategic ends--to gain capabilities that they don't have in-house, or to strengthen capabilities they do have. We have found that 85% of those winners use capability-sourcing broadly and strategically for everything from developing world-class talent to bringing new products to market faster and enabling business model innovation.
