1) We should have been more prepared for a wide-scale terrorist attack. Considering how advanced our technology is, we really weren't prepared at all for the disaster that struck the country, starting with the NY attacks. The stock market crash in 2002 was blamed on two major sources - a) the dot.com bubble that burst, and b) the terrorist attacks. Lesson: for a country of our size and technology, we should have much better defenses in place and ready to go, for a wide-scale attack.
