Riordan's strategic objective is to better penetrate the global market to attain its goal of remaining the world's premier plastics company. To achieve this objective Riordan has elected to pursue a global expansion project which involves entering Poland as a manufacturing, distribution and marketing base in the European Union (EU). Riordan must design and execute a supply chain for its Poland project to ensure the smooth coordination of materials, information, and funds from the initial raw material suppliers to its ultimate customers (Daniels, Radebaugh & Sullivan, 2004). This paper will develop the in-country and cross-border supply chain logistics for Riordan's move into Poland as well as recommend management controls in line with Riordan's business objectives in Poland and explain the supply chain decision making process.

Management Controls

The global supply chain links the suppliers' supplier with the customers' customer, accounting for every step of the process between the raw material and the final consumer of the good or service (Daniels et al, 2004). Supply Chain Management (SCM) is primarily a problem of scheduling resources. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and supply chain management need to work hand-in-hand to assign resources to competing activities over a given time horizon to obtain the best possible system performance. Effective SCM techniques will allow manufacturers like Riordan to collaborate with their customers, suppliers, and partners to provide faster, more accurate delivery of products to customers (Malone, 2005).
