Most of the people use the word team and group interchangeably, but in reality there exist a number of differences between a team and a group. Most of the leadership courses designed concentrate on team building rather than group building because they believe that a team's strength hinges upon the generality of aim and interconnectivity among individual members, while a group's strength come from absolute volume or readiness to accomplish a single leader's controls.

On the other hand in regard to group and team formation the formation of a group is much easier than the formation of a team. Formation of a group is not difficult because it depends upon a certain commonality whereas formation of a team does not depend upon a certain commonality as in a team members are selected for their complementary skills. A group's interpersonal dynamics can range from accomplished compatibility to inclusive intolerance, which could make consensus building very hard for a leader. In a team there does not exist a much room for conflict.
