The selected group is a Communication Committee that has the obligations of making sure that all internal communication within XYZ Company is carried out. The purpose of the group is to direct communication letters; faxes; issuing e-mails; in charge of internal and external communication; Planning speaker forums; Producing and directing communicating; and providing telephone assistance and technological reports. The group is comprised of mostly middle-aged females who have advanced degrees and careers.

The stages of growth can be analyzed using Tuckman's (1985) model of small groups. The five suggested stages are as follows: Stage 1 Forming, Sage 2-Storming, Stage 3- Norming, Stage 4 Performing, and Stage 5-Termination. For example in Stage 1, the group relies on a safe pattern of behavior. Stage 2 is characterized by competition and conflicts and personal relations expand into the task dimension. According to Tuckman, in Stage 3, members are actively engaged in the acknowledgment of all member's contribution to the group—building, maintaining and solving group issues. In Stage 4, Personal relations extend to interdependence within the group, and in Group 5, task behavior is terminated and members are disengaged from relationships. The selected group developed through similar stages. First the group formed as a Newsletter committee. Next, it took on the role of other forms of communication (pamphlets, flyers, brochures, etc.) and later evolved to a communications committee in charge of all the company's communications directives. Later the group was viewed as an interdependent organization in charge of company written and technological distributions. In stage 5, the group was dissolved as a Newsletter committee and became the Communications venue for all company material and technology delivery (e.g., e-mails, web information, etc.).
