Ethics and the bottom line for GM and Toyota

1-Our class has a discussion going on about how ethics might hinder the bottom line and how ethics might benefit the bottom line? Can anyone give some input in regards to GM and their bailout? I have seen a commercial declaring they have successfully paid back the money ahead of schedule and now looking forward to new innovative vehicles to produce.

2-Another discussion in the same line of discussion as above, is the Toyota vehicle problems/recall. Any input with this?
