One of the biggest issues with items like cell phones or certain other devices that include the latest technology is technology itself, and how rapidly technology changes. In the sequential process of manufacturing, each device goes through a line, where the current technology being used is added. One chip that controls function X is added in this stage of the process, and then the device moves on, and the remaining parts are added in sequence, until we have a finished product. With many goods, I can plan this process based on current demand and historical trends, taking into consideration time of year (holidays will bring more sales), and can strategically plan how many of my item I will produce within the given time frame.
