The rule-guided nonverbal communication in this TedTalks discussion was placated upon the use of a room that indicated the speaker was speaking formally because the room where the speech was given was designed with a formal design wherein the speaker spoke from a distance in regard to her proximity to the listeners' chairs. In addition, the speaker did not have a podium, but she was on a stage, which clearly highlighted that she was a treasured guest that held some high status, despite the fact that she engaged in banter with the crowd that could be construed as informal as she told jokes while delving into her discussion on vulnerability. Nevertheless, the nonverbal communication was palpable in regard to the speaker being able to convey her emotions through her nonverbal communication on several occasions.

She intentionally dressed nicely for the occasion while also intentionally controlling her nonverbal emotive actions through communication that exacerbated her spoken verbal words. She was professional yet approachable in the sense that she elicited laughter from the crowd through her jokes while also eliciting deep thought through her focus on her psychology background that allowed her to deliberately control the narrative throughout the session.
