Provide a detailed description of the Autonomic Nervous system and where does it fit within the nervous system subdivisions. Include detailed description of the sympathetic and parasympathetic responses, their affect on target organs and anatomy of their neurons.© BrainMass Inc. brainmass.com March 21, 2019, 10:01 am ad1c9bdddf

Overall, the nervous system includes Central Nervous system (CNS) (brain and spinal cord) and Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) (cranial and spinal nerves). The PNS is further divided into the afferent (sensory) and efferent (motor) systems. Efferent system is subdivided into somatic nervous system, which controls organs under voluntary control (mainly muscles) and the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), which regulates individual organ function and homeostasis, and for the most part is not subject to voluntary control. It is also known as the visceral or automatic system (Refer to Chart 1).
The nervous system and its various divsions and subdivisions are explained. The expert provides a description of the Autonomic Nervous system.
