Overall, the nervous system includes Central Nervous system (CNS) (brain and spinal cord) and Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) (cranial and spinal nerves). The PNS is further divided into the afferent (sensory) and efferent (motor) systems. Efferent system is subdivided into somatic nervous system, which controls organs under voluntary control (mainly muscles) and the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), which regulates individual organ function and homeostasis, and for the most part is not subject to voluntary control.
