    StatTrek (2012) mentions that "the researcher states a hypothesis to be tested, formulates an analysis plan, analyzes sample data according to the plan, and accepts or rejects the null hypothesis, based on results of the analysis".

    Statistical hypothesis testing is used to determine whether an experiment conducted provides enough evidence to reject a proposition (Kalla, 2009).

    In other words, hypotheses testing "is the use of statistics to determine the probability that a given hypothesis is true" (Weisstein, 2012).
