While you are there, you will journal your experiences and then write an article that will be published in a travel magazine.

India: the Dalits and Adivasis; Bosnia: The Muslims and Croats; South Africa: The Coloured's or Black Africans; Indonesia: The Chines; Rwanda: The Batwa.

Write an article for the travel magazine with a focus on the impact prejudice and discrimination on various cultures within the country you've chosen to visit. Cite 3-5 sources.

Include the following in your article:

1. A description of the various cultures as well as the races and ethnicities that exist within the country.
2. A clear differentiation between race and ethnicity
3. Examples of discrimination against a culture, race, or ethnic group in this country and an explanation of why the discrimination exists.

Hi,

One way to stop from being overwhelmed is to write a draft outline so you know what to include and what not to include. This is helpful in guiding your research as well. Once you locate several good sources to address the four sections of the paper, you draw up a draft copy.

One approach to help you in this process, is to write a tentative outline and address each question, which you can draw on your your draft and final copy. This is the approach this response takes. It will be fairly easy to take it to the next step and write your draft and final copy. I also attached one article, some of which this response is drawn.
Let's do that now.

RESPONSE:

Your tentative outline might look something to the effect....

I. Introduction (e.g., introduce topic, include thesis or purpose statement).

Your introduction briefly explains your topic and explains what your paper is about, and might be something to the effect....

While on a 6-month expedition to India, I experienced the diversity of this country. There are over 200 ethnic groups in India. Specifically, I experienced the discrimination of cultural group, the Adivasis. Although the Constitution of India (26 January 1950) prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth (Article 15) and it provides the right to equality (Article 14), to freedom of religion (Articles 25-28) and to culture and education (Articles 29-30), (http://www.pucl.org/Topics/Dalit-tribal/2003/adivasi.htm) to date, discrimination abounds for the Adivasis people (thesis). Specifically, this article describes the cultures of India, and specifically looks at the culture of the Adivasis, including a differentiation between race and ethnicity. The discrimination against the Adivasis in India is described by example and explanation of why the discrimination exists. Finally, it describes how discrimination has affected the people of this country and conditions that have resulted from the discrimination such as segregation, political unrest, poverty, or war.

II. Body (e.g. addresses the four questions in the order they are presented).

III. Conclusion (e.g., Restate thesis, and sum up main points)

Now, let's look at the one example provided in your instructions: India: the Adivasis to help you narrow your research. Now, you would need to do an on-line search for information about the one culture that is discriminated against, Adivasis. I often use Google, so let's do that now www.google.com using the search words of the two groups and the country: "India Adivasis." or "India different cultures" or India races and ethnicities" or some variation of these queries.

Note: I also included an article about discrimination against the Dalits in Inida, if you want to include this cultural group as well.

1. A description of the various cultures as well as the races and ethnicities that exist within the country.

This question is straightforward. You will be looking for information about the various cultures in India. It is not completely clear whether your Instructor just wanted you to focus on the two cultures that are given as examples, or to include all races or ethnicities. So, let's go with the two that was given as an example.

The Demographics of India are overall remarkably diverse. India's population of approximately 1.13 billion people (estimate for March 10, 2008) comprises approximately one-sixth of the world's population (http://finance.indiamart.com/india_business_information/population.html).

According to the World Factbook, India has four ethnic groups classified by languages, Indo-Aryan 72%, ...
