Introduction:

We've all seen it - a woman taking a puff, a woman addicted to cocaine, a woman addicted to heroine - all these things being done during pregnancy. The problems of this form of substance abuse is difficult enough to the life span and general health of the woman - however, when you introduce the affects on the fetus the problems magnify.

Having the best head start in life is vital for every human being. Every healthy baby is born with boundless opportunities to become anything they want in life. Of course, the society in which the child is born into - such as issues of gender equality, acceptance of different sexual orientations, race, culture and class play a role in how the baby will succeed in life. As well, the home environment plays a part.
